Wellsboro Varsity Softball head coach Greg Carr was named the All-Region Coach of the Year by the Towanda Daily Review on Wednesday, June 22.
In 9 seasons with the Lady Hornets, Carr compiled a career record of 135-56 (.707), won six NTL championships (2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016) and won the school’s only District IV championship (2015), and runners-up in this year's District IV AA title game.
8 Lady Hornets were also named to this year's All-Region team. Sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth was named Pitcher of the Year as she finished the 2016 season with an 11-4 record and struck out 157 batters in 102 2/3 innings of work.
Seniors Sarah Ingerick, Wellsboro's all-time hits leader (118), Jenny Young, and Alexa Singer were all first team selections, senior Darci Warriner and sophomore Sydney Tremper were second team picks, and sophomores Kailee Clymer and Brianne Keane were named to the All-Rookie team.
Ingerick also earned gold glove honors at shortstop.
