A 24-point third quarter gave St. John Neumann a 60-44 win over the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team on Saturday, December 5.
The Hornets jumped out to an early lead as junior Jacob Singer hit two early three pointers, but Neumann quickly closed the gap and would take a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Wellsboro's offense finally came alive in the second quarter as they closed Neumann's lead to 28-27 at halftime.
Neumann then caught fire in the third and outscored Wellsboro 24-5 to pull away and seal their first victory of the season.
Singer led the Hornets with 19 points on the afternoon, including three, three-pointers. Senior Dawson Prough had six points, sophomore Quinn Henry, Collin Pietropola, and junior Alden Weiner each had five points, and sophomore Dalton Prough rounded out the scoring with 4 points.
The Hornets won the JV game 40-38 behind 12 points from Pietropola and 10 points from sophomore Nic Ingerick.
The loss drops the Hornets to 0-1 to start the season. The team will be back in action on Monday, December 7 as they host Jersey Shore.
