The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team suffered a 28-27 loss to Coudersport on Tuesday, February 24.
The Lady Hornets trailed 8-6 at the end of the first quarter and 18-12 at halftime. Wellsboro held Coudersport to two points in the third quarter as they closed the gap to five points entering the fourth, but came up a point shy on the night.
"We got down early and had foul trouble in the first half, but we regrouped at halftime and our girls really played hard the second half," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We held them to 10 second half points and our girls made a strong rally and almost pulled it out, but we came up just short.
"We missed 10 free throws in the game and had a mistake here and there that could have changed the outcome, but I was really proud of how our girls never quite and battled to last second," continued Morris. "It was really a great game and our girls have nothing to hang their heads about."
Emma Poirier led the team with 14 points and five steals, Julia Smith had 8 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds, and Jaime Palmer had four points.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 6-3 on the year. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, March 4 as they host Towanda.
