The Wellsboro Middle School Boys Basketball team extended their win streak to five games after they beat Cowanesque Valley 32-21 on Thursday, March 19.
Wellsboro jumped out to an early 6-3 lead after the first quarter, but Cowanesque Valley went on a scoring spree in the second to take a 14-12 lead at halftime. The Hornets regroup after the break and held the Indians to only two points in the third quarter to go back up 20-16. Wellsboro then outscored Cowanesque Valley 12-5 in the final frame to hold on for the win.
"We struggled to pass the ball effectively against CV's zone in the first half," said head coach Ed Hamm. "In the second half we applied a bit more pressure defensively, which forced CV to turn the ball over. I was happy to see us score some points in transition."
Brandyn Tuttle led the way with eight points and 11 rebounds on the night. Tanner Button and Holden Kennedy each scored six points, and Andrew Brelo had four points. Taynton Repard, Nate Redell, Ben Barnett, and Aidan Perry each added two points to round out the scoring.
In the B team game, the Hornets lost 16-22. Carson Davis led the Hornets with eight points in the game.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 7-4. The team will be back in action on Monday, March 23 as they travel to Mansfield.
