The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team pulled within a game of being .500 with a 47-28 victory over Towanda on Tuesday, February 3.
The Lady Hornets found themselves trailing 12-6 after the first quarter, but a 14 point second quarter propelled Wellsboro to a 20-15 halftime lead. Wellsboro scored 20 points in the third quarter to ice the victory and outscore Towanda 27-13 in the second half.
Senior Jordan Butters and Junior Sarah Ingerick each led the Lady Hornets with 10 points on the night. Junior Alexa Singer finished with eight points, Freshman Lizzie Poirier had six, Junior Jada Jackson scored four, and Freshman Rachael Tuttle scored three. Senior Peyton Wilson, Sophomores Janessa Davis and Jessica Grab rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Wellsboro won the JV game 29-21 with eight points from Davis to improve to 14-3.
With the win, the Varsity team improves to 10-11 (4-5 NTL Division 1). The team will host rival Mansfield on Thursday, February 5 for Senior Night with a shot at qualifying for District IV playoffs.
