The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team picked up their second consecutive win as they defeated Towanda, 53-27 on Friday, January 9.

The Lady Hornets dominated the entire game as they outscored Towanda 29-14 in the first half and 24-13 in the second half, including holding the visitors to only two fourth quarter points as the starters came out and the JV team came in.

Junior Sarah Ingerick led the Lady Hornets, who had two girls score double-digit points, with 16 on the night. Most of Singer's points came on fast-break layups caused by defensive turnovers. Junior Alexa Singer scored 11 points on the night. Senior Jordan Butters scored a season-high nine points, Senior Peyton Wilson finished with six, and Junior Jada Jackson had four.

Rounding out the scoring was Freshmen Rachael Tuttle and Lizzie Poirier with two points, Sophomore Autum Kitajima with two, and Junior Raisa Rogers with one point.

Butters finished with seven rebounds, six of which were offensive, and Jackson grabbed eight rebounds. Jackson led the team with four steals and Wilson had four assists on the night.

Head Coach John Davis was very pleased with how his team played.

"We have a lot of positives to take away from tonight," Davis said. "Our shooting percentage wasn't as good as I would have liked and we had a few turnovers, but everything else went well and it's hard to be negative on a game when you win like that. A win is a win and we're looking forward to next week."

The Lady Hornets are getting into the heart of their schedule next week and will have some tough games as they travel to Mansfield on Tuesday, January 13 and journey to Northeast Bradford to finish the week.

"Mansfield is tough, they're good inside and out," Coach Davis said. "They're a smart group but we have to come ready to play and give it 100%."

The Lady Hornets won the JV game 46-20 to improve to 5-2.

With the win the Varsity team improves to 6-4 (2-1 NTL Division 1).
