The Wellsboro Varsity Basketball team had their six game win streak snapped on Monday, December 21 as they lost 59-48 to Coudersport.
The Lady Hornets struggled in the first quarter as Coudersport jumped out to an 18-4 lead and the Lady Hornets were unable to recover. Wellsboro outscored the Lady Falcons 16-10 in the second to make up some ground to trail 28-20 at halftime, but Coudersport scored 14 points to the Lady Hornets' nine then scored 17 more in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Sophomore Lizzie Poirier had a season and career high 17 points to lead Wellsboro and senior Sarah Ingerick had 14. Senior Jada Jackson had 7 points, sophomore Rachael Tuttle scored six, and senior Alexa Singer pitched in with four points.
Coudersport also won the JV game 25-24. Wellsboro led 20-19 going into the fourth quarter. Freshmen Emma Poirier and Dani Hunt each had 10 points on the night and freshman Julia Smith and junior Alley Drew each scored two points.
The loss drops the Varsity team's record to 6-2 (2-0 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action today as they travel to Towanda.
