The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team's season came to an end on Thursday, Feburary 5 as they lost 57-47 to Mansfield.

Wellsboro had to beat the rivals to keep their season alive, but came up short. Junior Jada Jackson got the Hornets on the board early as she made one of two foul shots, but Mansfield would go quickly jump out to a 6-1 lead thanks to their deadly long-range shooting. Wellsboro would fight back as Senior Jordan Butters seven of her team-high 11 points in the opening quarter.

Mansfield would hold a 12-8 lead over Wellsboro, however, heading into the second quarter. From there, the Lady Tigers kept their strong outside shooting going as they managed to score 16 points in the quarter, but Wellsboro wouldn't give up as they managed 13 points of their own to keep the score close. Mansfield would hold a 28-21 lead at the half.

The Lady Hornets came out swinging in the third quarter as they matched Mansfield's 15 points. Wellsboro would cut the deficit to two points midway through the quarter, but Mansfield's outside shooting kept the Hornets down. Wellsboro entered the fourth quarter down seven, but couldn't get over the hump as they were forced to foul as time began to wind down.

Mansfield would hold on for the 10 point victory, spoiling Wellsboro's Senior Night for Butters and Peyton Wilson.

Butters was the only Lady Hornet in double-figures with 11 points, while Freshman Rachael Tuttle and Juniors Alexa Singer and Sarah Ingerick all scored eight points. Jackson finished with seven points on the night and Freshman Lizzie Poirier rounded out the scoring with five.

"The girls fought hard and left it all on the court tonight," said head coach John Davis. "Mansfield is a really good team and to beat a team like that you have to have a really good night and have a lot of things go your way and that didn't happen for us tonight."

In the JV game, the Lady Hornets beat Mansfield 42-29 to finish the season with a 15-3 record under coach Chelsie Martin.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets finish the season at 10-12 (4-6 NTL Division 1).
