The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team suffered a 47-34 loss to Athens on Thursday, January 22.
The Lady Hornets turned the ball over 31 times and trailed the entire game. After the first quarter, Athens held a slim 10-6 lead but increase it to 22-15 at the half. Athens would outscore the Lady Hornets by a narrow margin of 25-19 in the second half to claim the home court victory.
Junior Sarah Ingerick led Wellsboro with 12 points on the night and Junior Jada Jackson scored 10 in her first game back from injury. Freshman Lizzie Poirier scored six points, Senior Jordan Butters scored four, and Rachael Tuttle rounded out the scoring with two points.
In the JV game, the Lady Hornets suffered their third loss of the year as they lost 30-25. Poirier was the leading scorer with eight points in the game.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 8-8 (2-4 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Saturday, January 24 as they travel to Mifflinburg.
