All win streaks must eventually come to an end, and Jersey did that with a 4-2 win over the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team on Monday, May 11.
Jersey Shore scored three runs in the first inning and Wellsboro was unable to dig themselves out of that hole. The Lady Hornets did manage a run in the bottom of the first inning and scored once more in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game, but Jersey Shore added an insurance run in the sixth and would hold off Wellsboro the rest of the way.
Senior Paige Carr led the Lady Hornets at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Senior Jordan Butters was 2-for-3, Senior Baylea Lehman was 1-for-3, Freshman Alyssa Yungwirth was 1-for-4 with a home run and RBI, and Junior Sarah Ingerick was 1-for-4 with a double.
Junior Alexa Singer pitched a complete game on the mound for Wellsboro, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits to go along with three walks and two strikeouts on 95 pitches.
In the JV game Wellsboro lost 5-4.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 16-2. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, May 13 as they host Williamson.
