Members of the Wellsboro Football team earned more post-season awards on Christmas Day.
Head coach Matt Hildebrand was named Coach of the Year by the Williamsport-Sun Gazette. Hildebrand is in his third year as the head ball coach and currently sits tied for third all-time with 28 career wins, including two 10-win seasons and is the only head coach in Wellsboro history to win a District IV Championship.
In addition to these honors from the Sun Gazette, senior Nick Tremper earned first team honors at linebacker as he set a new school record of 161 tackles in a single-season*, sophomore Quinn Henry was a first team athlete, and junior Parker Jones is the first team tight end.
Eight Hornets earned All-Star nominations from District IV for their play this year. Defensively, Jones was a first team defensive end, Tremper was a first team linebacker, senior Owen Covert was an honorable mention defensive tackle, sophomore Collin Pietropola was an honorable mention linebacker, and Henry and sophomore Chase Moser were honorable mentions at safety.
On the offensive side of the football, Jones and Covert were both first team selections, Henry was an honorable mention quarterback, Tremper was an honorable mention fullback, junior Brandon Lamphier was an honorable mention at wide receiver, Pietropola was an honorable mention center, and junior Kaleb Smith was an honorable mention guard.
Nine Hornets were named to the 2015 All-Region team by the Towanda Daily Review. Henry took home Newcomer of the Year as he became the first Wellsboro quarterback to rush and throw for 1,00 yards in a single-season.
The first team includes Covert at offensive tackle, Jones at defensive end, Tremper at linebacker, and Henry as the utility player. The second team features Moser at utility and Smith at offensive line. Making up the third team are Lamphier at wide receiver, sophomore Alex Kozuhowski at defensive back, and Pietropola at punter.
