The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team increased their win streak to four games with a 48-31 win over Freedom Village from New York on Monday, December 14.
The Hornets jumped out to an early 17-5 first quarter lead but were outscored 13-10 in the second quarter to lead 27-18 at halftime. Wellsboro scored 21 points in the second half to Freedom Village's 13 to ice the game and pick up the win.
Junior Jacob Singer kept up his hot shooting this season with 13 points to lead the team while sophomore Dalton Prough had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and six assists. Sophomore Quinn Henry scored 9 points, senior Dawson Prough had 8 points and three steals, junior Brandon Lamphier had 4 points, junior Alden Weiner added two points as he went 2-for-2 from the foul line, and sophomores Nic Ingerick and Collin Pietropola each added a point. Pietropola also grabbed 8 rebounds on the night.
The JV team remained undefeated and are now 5-0 on the year after winning 54-25. The win marks coach Chase Kriner's 100th career win. Freshman Andrew Brelo led the team with 13 points on the night, Pietropola added 10, Ingerick scored 8, freshmen Brandyn Tuttle, Holden Kennedy, and Bergen Weiner all finished with 6, and freshman Tanner Button pitched in with 5 points.
The Varsity team is now 4-1 on the year and hosts Williamson on Wednesday, December 16.
