The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team suffered their first loss of the year as they fell to Towanda 3-1 on Thursday, September 24.
Towanda won the first set 25-23, won the second 25-15. Wellsboro won the third 25-17 to stay alive, but Towanda won 25-12 in the fourth set to win the match. The loss ended a six-game regular season win streak by the Lady Hornets to start the year.
Juniors Kirsten Florio and twin sister Morgan Florio each recorded 8 kills and senior Mikayla Feil had 7. Senior Maddy Kyle had 20 assists, senior Haley Zuchowski scored 12 points (3 aces), Kyle scored 13 points, and Morgan Florio scored 7. Senior Darci Warriner led the Lady Hornets with 18 digs, Zuchowski had 15, and the Florio sisters each recorded 5.
Towanda also won the JV game 2-1 (26-28, 25-17, 15-4) on the night.
The loss drops Wellsboro's record to 6-1 (3-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Monday, September 28 as they host Sayre.
