The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team remained undefeated with a 9-0 shut out over Sullivan County on Saturday, September 19.
The Hornets scored four first-half goals on their way to the home win. Senior Dawson Prough got the party started with 28:34 showing on the clock as he scored off an assist from junior Josiah Hill to go up 1-0. Hill made it 2-0 Hornets a minute later then assisted senior Tucker Worthington with 16:57 remaining to take a 3-0 lead.
The Hornets' fourth goal of the first half came with 4:15 remaining as sophomore Gabe Leach scored. The Hornets picked up where they left off in the first half as senior Nick Webster scored with 35:52 remaining to put the Hornets up 5-0. Sophomore Tanner Runyan scored with 27:36 on the clock off an assist from Prough to make it 6-0, and Hill scored his second goal off a Worthington assist with 25:48 left to make it 7-0, Hornets.
Wellsboro's final two goals came from younger members of the team. Freshman Brett Rudy found the back of the net with 12:35 to make it 8-0 and freshman Cam Tennis scored the game's final goal off an assist from sophomore Noah Fitch with 10:14 remaining to make it 9-0.
"The boys played really well today, their movement was tremendous," said head coach John Shaffer. "Some great attacking ideas. I was very happy at how the reserves played in the second half. There was not drop off in energy or play."
The Hornets took 28 shots on the day and 9 corner kicks. Junior Casey Hoover had a fairly easy day in goal as he saved the only shot attempt Sullivan Country took.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 5-0 (3-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 22 as they host Galeton.
