The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team won their 10th game of the year with a 10-0 shutout over Northern Potter on Saturday, October 3.
In less than ideal conditions, the Hornets opened the proverbial "flood gates" with their offensive attack. Junior Josiah Hill recorded a hat trick on the day with his first goal coming at 29:38 off an assist from sophomore Tanner Runyan. Senior Tucker Worthington scored back-to-back goals at 18:18 and 13:04, both off Hill assists to make it 3-0 Wellsboro early.
Hill made it 4-0 Wellsboro off another Runyan assist with 45 seconds left in the half, then Runyan scored off a Hill pass with 3 seconds to put the Hornets up 5-0 at halftime.
Runyan scored the second of his three goals with 38:40 remaining on a header as Worthington assisted. Junior Jacob Singer scored a minute later to make it 7-0 and Runyan made it 8-0 off another header and Worthington assist with just over 31 minutes remaining. Wellsboro's final two goals were scored by Hill off an assist from senior Dawson Prough, then Prough scored with 8:41 remaining as freshman Cam Tennis assisted for the 10-0 win.
"We found a way to brilliant soccer today," said head coach John Shaffer. "We put a lot of pressure on them to win the ball back and then attacked aggressively. We took our chances better today then against Troy and that will determine our future."
The JV team also won by shutout with a 7-0 score. Freshman Brett Rudy scored 4 goals and freshman Adam Cornell, Tennis, and freshman Holden Kennedy all added goals.
The win improves the team's record to 10-0-1 (7-0-1). The team will be back in action on Monday, October 5 as they host Coudersport.
