The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team dropped their sixth NTL match as they were defeated by Towanda, 60-18.
Sophomore Kaleb Smith started the match, after four Towanda forfeits, with a 3-1 decision over Mitchell Peters at 220 lbs. to trail 24-3. Junior Owen Covert made the score 24-6 as he picked up a 3-0 decision on Larry Kithcart at 285 lbs. following Smith's match.
Towanda would put the match out of reach as they again recorded four more forfeits in the next five weight classed. Freshman Cory Busch earned a forfeit for the Hornets before Sophomore Blaze Coolidge was pinned by Nicholas Sutton in 3:02 at 138 lbs. Junior Vincent DeRita lost by fall to Clay Mosier at 5:06.
In the Hornets' final match of the night, Senior Jack Chambers pinned Christian Thomason in 1:46 at 152 lbs. for his 10th win of the year.
In the Middle School match, the Hornets lost 69-15 to fall to 4-2 on the year.
The Varsity team is now 1-11 (0-6 NTL). The team will be back in action on Saturday, January 17 as they travel to Jersey Shore.
