The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team won their fourth straight game on Tuesday, April 28 as they beat Wyalusing 13-3 in seven innings.
Junior Sam Moss picked up his fifth win of the season as he started on the mound for the Hornets and pitched five innings with allowing a run. Moss allowed one hit, walked two batters, and struck out two. Junior Dawson Prough came on in relief and pitched the final two innings and allowed three runs (two earned).
Three Hornets had multiple hits on the night. Junior Nick Tremper and Moss were both 2-for-5 and Freshman Dalton Prough was 2-for-4. Tremper hit a double and scored two runs, Moss also hit a double and scored a run, and Dalton Prough scored two runs.
"I'm very pleased with our pitching performance tonight," said head coach Philip Prough. "We attacked the strike zone and let our defense help us. At the plate, we were patient enough to keep forcing the action with good contact."
The young Hornets are finally hitting their stride as the second half of the season starts, which is especially pleasing for Prough.
"We're winning games in different ways and with different players," Prough continued. "That's a good sign of the progress we're making."
The win improves to Hornets' record to 7-4 (3-2 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action today as they host Troy.
