The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team extended their win streak to six games with a 14-12 win over Northest Bradford on Thursday, April 30.
The Hornets found themselves down 3-0 before geting two runs back in the third inning to trail 3-2. Northeast would add two more runs in the fourth inning, but the Hornet offense came alive in the fourth and fifth innings as they scored six and four runs, respectively to go up 12-5.
That lead would slip away from Wellsboro, however as Northeast exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to tie the game up, but Wellsboro scored two runs in the seventh to pick up the win.
Junior Dawson Prough was 4-for-5 with a three-run home run, two doubles, five RBI's and a run scored to lead the Hornets at the plate. Senior Nick Levindoski, Junior Nick Tremper, and Freshman Caleb Tennis all had hits, with Tremper adding three RBI's and three runs scored. Freshman Dalton Prough, Levindoski and Tennis each scored two runs, while Freshman Johnny Rowland, Senior Brett Kendrick, and Juniors Joe Allen and Sam Moss added runs.
Dalton Prough started on the mound and pitched five innings and allowed five runs (two earned). Junior James Mundy picked up the win in relief as he pitched the final 1 2/3 innings after a 1/3 of an inning by Freshman Alex Kozuhowski.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 9-4 (4-2 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action today as they host Wyalusing.
