The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team dropped their first game of the season with a 2-1 loss to Athens on Monday, September 14.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first half as the game was a scoreless tie at halftime. Senior Sarah Ingerick opened up scoring in the 23rd minute of the second half off an assist from senior Jenny Young to take a 1-0 lead. Taylor Reynard for Athens answered in the 36th minute to tie it up and Emily Lunger scored the game-winning goal in the 38th minute.
Athens outshot Wellsboro 15-3 and had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Kailee Clymer recorded 11 saves in goal for the Lady Hornets.
In the JV game, the Lady Hornets lost to Athens 4-0.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 1-1-1 (0-1-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 16 as they host Northeast Bradford.
