11 Hornets were named to the Towanda Daily Review's All-Region soccer team.
For the boys, sophomore Dalton Prough was named Defensive Player of the Year and was a first team selection. Junior Josiah Hill was also a first team selection. Seniors Tucker Worthington and Nick Webster were both second team selections, and sophomore Gabe Leach and junior Casey Hoover were named to the rookie team.
"I felt we had a really balanced team this year and that after going 15-2-1 in the regular season that more of the boys should have been selected," said head coach John Shaffer. "With that said, I'm very happy for those that did get selected. Dalton was a well-deserved defensive player of the year. He's the best center back in the area by a mile and he is only a sophomore. Josiah also got first team after a terrific year scoring and assisting on a ton of goals.
"I was disappointed Tucker only got 2nd team. Tuck had a great year, scored and assisted on a lot of goals as well, hands down one of the best midfielders in the area. I was happy Nick finally got the attention he deserves. Nick was a great defender for the last 3 years and really gave us an attacking threat from a traditionally defensive position.
"I'm very happy that Gabe Leach was mentioned on the all-rookie team. Gabe did all of the things that we don't keep stats on. He probably ran the most of anyone on the team, always working hard to get into supporting positions. Often he had the pass before the assist for the goal. For anyone that watched our games Gabe was clearly a key to how we played.
"It was great for Casey to be mentioned on the All-rookie team as well. Our goal keeper position went from the biggest question mark entering the season to a position where the coaching staff had perfect confidence in expecting a great performance every game."
For the girls, sophomore Kailee Clymer was named Goalie of the Year and was a first team selection. Senior Sarah Ingerick and freshman Julia Smith were also first team selections and seniors Samantha Young and Emma Eccher were a second team picks.
"We had a very well rounded ream this year and I think the voting was quite accurate," said head coach Mike Hotchkiss. "All of the players picked deserve the honor."
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate those selected, and thank them for their hard work and dedication during the season.
