Junior Brynn Ripley scored in the 73rd minute to break a scoreless tie and help the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team beat Northeast Bradford, 1-0.
Sophomore Kelsey Logan assisted on Ripley's goal as the Lady Hornets out shot NEB 25-6. Freshman Kailee Clymer recorded three saves on the night to earn the shut out.
In the JV game, the Lady Hornets tied NEB 1-1.
With the win, Wellsboro improves to 8-5-1 (8-4-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, October 9 as they travel to Towanda.
In Middle School action, the Hornets tied Liberty 2-2. The Hornets were trailing 2-0 in the back-and-forth first half despite holding the advantage in time of possession and shots on goal. The second half was a different story as Wellsboro was in total control. Seven minutes into the second half Alan Hazelton scored off a Julia Smith assist.
Smith would go onto to score the game tying goal off a Brett Rudy assist. Wellsboro came extremely close to scoring the game winning goal several times but was unable to do so and the game ended in a tie.
"I was pleased to see our kids keep their heads up and play Wellsboro soccer in the second half," said head coach Ed Hamm.
The Hornets are now 6-4-1 on the year, and will play their final game on Saturday, October 11 as they host Sayre.
