The Wellsboro Middle School Soccer teams opened the 2014 season with two losses to Athens on Saturday, August 30.
The A team lost 3-1 while the B team lost 2-0.
Nate Redell recoreded 13 saves in goal for the Hornets. Wellsboro's lone goal in the game came off a shot by Adam Cornell and was assisted by Brett Rudy. All three of Athens' goals came in the first half.
"We played hard all game long but lost to an extremely fundamental Athens team," said head coach Ed Hamm. "We made adjustments to the turf in the second half, but simply ran out of time to complete the comeback."
With the loss, the Hornets start out 0-1. The team will be back in action on Thursday, September 4 as they host Galeton.
