The Wellsboro Middle School girls basketball team extended their win streak to five games as they defeated the rival Lady Tigers 44-5 Tuesday night.
"We started a little sluggish, leading 10-2 at the end of the first quarter, but then we got it rolling and had a 17-1 run in the second quarter in which we ran our break really well and finished at the basket," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We got our younger girls a lot of playing time in the second half and all of our girls did a really good job of passing the ball and playing together throughout the game.
"I saw a lot of good things out of our whole team tonight," concluded Morris.
Rachael Tuttle had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lady Hornets. Brianne Keane and Lizzie Poirier had 6 points each, Sydney Tremper and Alyssa Yungwirth had 4 points each, Jillian Graver (5 rebounds), Hayley Widows, Emma Poirier (3 assists, 4 rebounds), Dani Hunt had 2 points each, and Liz Johns added 1 steal and 3 rebounds.
In the B game, the Lady Hornets won 24-6 to improve to 4-3 on the year.
With the win, the A team is now 11-3. The team will be back in action on Thursday, March 13 as they travel to Cowanesque Valley.
