The Wellsboro Varsity girls basketball team picked up their second straight win as they defeated Liberty 60-39 on Saturday, January 4.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 16-7 lead after the first quarter and was up 26-20 after the half, but exploded for 21 points in the third quarter to seal the victory.
Three Hornets scored in double figures on the night, led by Sophomore Alexa Singer with 16 points. Sophomore Jada Jackson added 14 points and Sophomore Sarah Ingerick pitched in 13. Rounding out the scoring was Senior Maggie Smith with 6, Senior Brooke Kohler with 5, Junior Jordan Butters with 4, and Junior Peyton Wilson with 2.
Jackson led the team with 12 rebounds, here fourth straight multi-rebound game, and Wilson had 8 assists.
In the J.V game, the Lady Hornets won 30-11 to improve their record to 3-4. Freshman Jessica Grab led all scorers with 10 points.
With the win, the varsity team improves to 5-5. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, January 7 as they travel to rival Mansfield.
