The Wellsboro Varsity softball team only needed five innings to defeat Liberty 12-0 on Friday, May 9.
Senior Brooke Kohler started on the mound, going the distance. The senior struck out eight, walked one, and gave up three hits to pick up her third win of the season.
The Lady Hornets went on a tear in the first inning as they scored six runs and backed up that solid performance with a five-run second inning. The team scored their final run in the third to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore Sarah Ingerick went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, an RBI, and three runs scored. Junior Paige Carr went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Sophomore Jenny Young, Junior Baylea Lehman, Senior Maggie Smith, Sophomore Darci Warriner, Kohler, and Junior Jordan Butters all added hits on the night.
Lehman, Butters, and Junior Kaitlyn Sawyer scored two runs each and Smith, Warriner, and Kohler also scored.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 13-4 (5-4 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Monday, May 12 as they travel to Wyalusing.
