The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team took second place in the Muncy Tournament as they fell 52-40 to Hughesville in the championship game on Saturday, December 6.
The Lady Hornets trailed 10-6 after the first quarter and 21-18 at halftime before Hughesville scored 19 third quarter points and then 12 in the final frame to take home the win.
Junior Jada Jackson was the leading scorer on the night with 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Junior Sarah Ingerick had 10 points and two rebounds, Senior Jordan Butters finished with eight points and seven rebounds, Sophomore Jessica Grab and Freshman Rachael Tuttle had four points each, Junior Alexa Singer finished with two points, and Sophomore Autum Kitajima added one point.
Ingerick was named to the all-tournament team and Jackson was named tournament MVP.
The loss drops the Varsity team to 1-1 to start the year.
In JV action, the Lady Hornets went 1-1 on Saturday at the Muncy Tournament. The girls lost their opening round game 35-24 to Hughesville and beat Muncy 49-10 in the second game to start their season at 1-1. Freshman Lizzie Poirier scored 11 points and Tuttle added 10 to lead the Lady Hornets against Hughesville, while Poirier had 13, Grab and Freshman Brianne Keane scored nine points each against Muncy.
The girls begin regular season play on Wednesday, December 10 as they host Sayre.
