The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team came up short in overtime in a 41-36 loss to Athens on Friday, December 19.
After trailing for the majority of the gmae, the Lady Hornets scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but Athens held the girls to only one point while hitting four foul shots and a two-pointer to claim the NTL Division 1 victory.
Junior Sarah Ingerick led the Lady Hornets with 10 points. Junior Jada Jackson scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds before fouling out. Freshman Rachael Tuttle had six points and six rebounds, Junior Raisa Rogers had five points, Junior Alexa Singer finished with four points and five rebounds, and Senior Jordan Butters pitched in two.
Athens beat the Lady Hornets 26-25 in the JV game. Freshman Lizzie Poirier was the high scorer for the Hornets with nine points.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 3-2 (0-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action this afternoon as they host Coudersport.
