The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team picekd up a 68-21 win over Cowanesue Valley in their regular season opener on Friday, December 12.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 18-4 lead in the first quarter and pushed their lead to 32-6 after scoring 14 points in the second quarter. The girls kept the pressure on Cowanesque as they scored 19 points in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth to claim the victory.
Juniors Sarah Ingerick and Alexa Singer each scored 10 points on the night. Ingerick added five assists and Singer pitched in three. Junior Jada Jackson scored eight points and had two steals, Freshman Rachael Tuttle also added eight points, Junior Raisa Rogers had seven points and five rebounds, and Senior Jordan Butters and Sophomore Jessica Grab each added six points.
Rounding out the rest of the scoring for Wellsboro was Senior Peyton Wilson and Sophomore Autum Kitajima with four each, Freshman Lizzie Poirier with three, and Sophomore Janessa Davis with two.
In the JV game, Wellsboro won 40-18 to improve to 2-1. Poirier led the Lady Hornets with 16 points on the night.
With the win the Lady Hornets improve to 2-1 on the year. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, December 17 as they travel to Canton.
