The Wellsboro Varsity softball team suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to Towanda, 4-1.
Senior Brooke Kohler scored Wellsboro's lone run in the first inning after Senior Maggie Smith connected on a base hit. Towanda went on to score two runs in the second inning and then two more in the sixth to take the lead.
The Lady Hornets were only able to get five more hits on the night after the first inning. Junior Baylea Lehman and Sophomore Sarah Ingerick had two hits each and Junior Jordan Butters had the other. Sophomore Alexa Singer suffered her first loss of the season in a short two inning outing. Kohler came on in relief and struck out seven Black Knights.
In the JV game the Lady Hornets lost, 3-2 in the first game of the season. Freshman Kaeli Butters had three strikeouts on the mound in four innings before the game got called due to weather.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 4-1 (0-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 16 as they travel to Liberty.
