The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team lost their second game of the year as they lost to Galeton 4-2 on Saturday, September 27.
"I want to congratulate Galeton on winning their homecoming game," said head coach John Shaffer. "It was a big night for them and they played well."
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a penalty kick by Chad Shumaker and held that advantage until the Hornets scored in the second half as Senior Brieux Thibaut assisted Sophomore Josiah Hill to knot the game at 1-1.
"Once we tied the game at 1-1 I thought we had a chance to win it, but then we made un-Wellsboro type plays," Shaffer continued. "I give credit to Galeton for putting us under pressure but we definitely hurt ourselves tonight."
Galeton then scored the next three goals to go up 4-1. Wellsboro would add another goal as Thibaut scored off an assist by Junior Dawson Prough.
In the JV game, the Hornets won 1-0 behind a goal from Freshman Noah Fitch to improve to 4-0-3.
In the Middle School game, Wellsboro lost 3-0.
With the loss, the Varsity team falls to 8-2 (8-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, September 29 as they travel to Athens.
