The Wellsboro Cross Country teams opened the 2014 season on the road at the Lasagna Invite in Wyalusing on Thursday, September 4.
The Lady Hornets scored 88 team points, finishing just behind Northeast Bradford who won the event with 41.
Junior Jada Jackson was the top finisher for Wellsboro, coming home in 5th place in 21:51. Junior Camryn Keane was 18th (24:25), Freshman Anna Bleggi was 19th (24:37), Senior Annie Sweeney was 21st at 24:39, Junior Jordyn Coffee was 32nd at 25:25, Junior Samantha Bailey was 34th (25:30), Senior Caitlynn Butler was 50th at 27:13, and Freshman Aiyana Hazlett was 63rd in 30:58.
For the boys, Sophomore Alden Weiner was the highest finisher in 31st at 20:13, Sophomore Joey Messmer was 50th in 22:07, Freshmen Kyle Wilson (22:14) and Connor Brought (22:19) finished 53rd and 54th, Freshman Logan Morral was 72nd in 25:14, and Freshman Noah Smith was 80th in 29:26.
In the Middle School races, the Wellsboro boys were third with 74 points and the girls were 4th with 87 points.
The teams will be back in action on Tuesday, September 9 as they host Canton and Sayre.
