The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Cross Country team lost to Canton and Sayre on Tuesday, September 9 in Wellsboro.
Canton beat Wellsboro 17-42 and Sayre beat the Hornets 25-31. Sayre's Nick Sweet won the meet in 17:46 and Canton's Brennan Gleckner was second in 18:21. Sophomore Alden Weiner was the top Hornet in 6th at 20:38. Sophomore Joey Messmer was 9th (21:29), Freshman Kyle Wilson was 12th (22:25), Freshman Connor Brought was 13th (22:27), Senior Dalton Messmer was 19th (25:08), Freshman Logan Morral was 21st (26:07), and Freshman Noah Smith was 23rd (32:04).
In the Middle School meet, Wellsboro won both races due to the fact that none of the other schools had enough runners. Aidan Perry (10:13) and Herschel Holsomback (10:53) took home the top two spots.
With the loss, the Hornets start the 2014 season 0-2 (0-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 16 as they travel to Athens.
