Sophomore Tucker Worthington scored two goals as the Wellsboro Varsity boys soccer team picked up their first District IV playoff win in program history on Wedensday night.

Worthington's first goal came in the 32nd minute off an assist from Sophomore Quinten Curneir to put Wellsboro up 1-0 on the Golden Knights. Worthington scored his second goal just 46 seconds into the start of the second half to put Wellsboro up 2-0. Senior Erik Stemcosky was credited with the assist on the goal.

Senior Aaron Dillman scored Wellsboro's third goal in the 68th minute off a Stemcosky assist to go up 3-0 before Senior Dan Brooks iced the game in the 76th minute off an assist from Dillman to claim the game, 4-1.

"I am so happy for the boys to earn the first district win in school history," said head coach John Shaffer. "It took us the first half to get comfortable and confident in a district setting.

"At half time I challenged them to play to win instead of playing not to lose. The second half turned into a clinic for most of it. We scored less then a minute in and ended up with 18 shots in the second half," Shaffer continued.

"The play of the midfield was brilliant and really controlled the game. We play a very good Millville team on Saturday. We will need to be more organized in the back and more clinical in the attacking third to progress on to a district semi," concluded Shaffer.

The Hornets took 27 shots to Neumann's 9. Junior Jake Mitchell stopped 3 shots in goal for the Hornets on the night.

With the win, the Hornets improve their season record to 15-4 (14-4 NTL). Please stay tuned to the Wellsboro Hornets Official Facebook Page, follow @wellsathletics on Twitter, and connect with us on Google+ for the location and time of the team's next game.
