Williamson tops Lady Hornets to win NTL West

Shooting woes continued for the Wellsboro Lady Hornets as they fell to Williamson Thursday night, 50-41. The win gave Williamson the NTL West title for 2012-13.

The Lady Hornets struggled in the first quarter, as they couldn't get shots to fall until 2:53 remaining in the first quarter. By that time Williamson had scored 11 points, and would take an 11-4 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter was a differnet story for Wellsboro, however. The Lady Hornets went on a 10-2 run and would eventually take a seven point lead into the half and would hold that lead until early in the fourth quarter and would hold on for the win and the NTL West crown.

"Our girls gave it their all but made some fundamental mistakes that let Williamson regain momentum," said head coach Mary Grab. "Once again, our shooting was pathetic. You can't win games if you can't put the ball through the net."

Senior Mackenzie Marple led the Lady Hornets with 20 points. Sophomore Jordan Butters added seven, Senior Kiana Acron netted six, Freshman Sarah Ingerick had four, and Freshman Jada Jackson and Senior Hannah Zuchowski had two points a piece.

In the JV game, the Hornets won 38-31. Ingerick was the leading scorer with 13 points, and Sophomore Peyton Wilson added 7.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 9-11 (6-3 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, February 12 as they host Troy.
