Senior Matt Reese threw a complete game as the Wellsboro Varsity baseball team beat Danville 5-2 Tuesday night.
The Hornets jumped out early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Danville fought back to cut the deficit to one after two innings, before Wellsboro again made it a two-run lead in the fourth. In the fifth the Ironmen again got within one, before Wellsboro tacked on two runs in the sixth to seal the victory.
Reese limited Danville to just 6 hits (all singles) on the night, compared to 10 for the Hornets, and struck out 6. In addition to his solid performance on the mound, Reese also went 4-4 at the plate with a double and scored 2 runs.
Freshman Dawson Prough pitched in going 2-3 with a double and also scored 2 runs, and Senior Ben Shaw also added a double.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 11-3 (4-2 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Friday, May 10 as they host Williamson.
