The Wellsboro boys and girls track teams competed in the Altoona Igloo Invite on Saturday. The boys finished 11 out of 25 teams with 18 points, while the girls finished in 17th out of 27 teams with 11 points.
The boys had a strong showing in the 1600m run, the 400m run, and the 4x400m relay. In the 1600m, Senior Bobby Hill finished in third place with a time of 4:34, a personal best and 3 seconds off of state qualifying time. This time qualifies Bobby for Districts later in the season.
In the 400m run, Senior Jordan Jackson finished third in 52.5 to also qualify for Districts. Finally, the 4x400m relay team of Junior Joey Doganiero, Sophomore Michael Pietropola, Hill, and Jackson finished third in 3:38.39.
Other top performances on the day were by Sophomore Jack Chambers in the 300m hurdles (15th, 45.27), Junior Dan Brooks in the 200m run (16th, 24.83), Sophomore Nick Marple in the high jump (11th, 5' 6"), Senior Thomas Straniere in the pole vault (11th, 11') and Junior Blake Gamble in the shot put (18th, 36' 9").
For the girls, the 4x800m relay team finished in 7th place in 10:50.3, Senior Randi Grim finished 13th in the 1600m run (5:53.27), Freshman Jada Jackson took home 7th in the 400m run (1:03.67) and 8th in the 800m (2:35.55), Sophomore Lauren Bleggi finished 17th in the 200m run in 28.85.
In the field events, Senior Sarah Kramer took home 7th in the pole vault (8' 6"), Senior Kimberly Acorn was 16th in the triple jump (30' 8"), Senior Jessie Catherman finished 11th in the discus (82' 5") and 7th in the javelin (99' 10").
Both teams will resume NTL action on Tuesday, April 9 as they travel to Towanda for a tri-meet with the Black Knights and Northeast Bradford.
