The Wellsboro Middle School volleyball team started the 2013 season off with a 2-0 victory over Troy Wednesday night.
In the first game, the A team won 25-11 and followed it up with a 25-12 win in the second game.
"Both teams played well for the first match of the season," said head coach Jenn Outman. "Nerves definitely played a factor for the first half of the first set of the A-Team game."
After an early time out, the team settled down and took the lead behind 8th grader Elizabeth Poirier's serves and never looked back. 8th grader Grace Feil helped the team out with several powerful serves. Rachael Tuttle lead the team in spikes/kills and did a great job of passing to the setter, Brianna Keane.
"Brianna did a fantastic job getting the second hit and finding the middle and outside hitters," Outman remarked.
In the B game, the Lady Hornets fell 27-29 and 22-25.
With the win by the A team, the Lady Hornets start the season 1-0. The team will be back in action on Saturday, September 7 as they host Wyalusing.
