The Wellsboro Middle School soccer team won their first game of the season Saturday beating Williamson, 4-2.
The Hornets started out slow and found themselves down early. Gabe Leach scored off a first half penalty kick. Tanner Runyan scored off a Noah Fitch assist. Devin Webster scored off an assist from Brandon Plume. Noah Fitch scored off an assist from Gabe Leach. Kaylee Clymer finished the day with eight saves.
Wellsboro started off the day slow and went into halftime trailing 4-1. The lone Wellsboro goal came from a Gabe Leach Penalty Kick. Wellsboro woke up and started to play their game in the second half scoring three times. The Hornet comeback fell short at the end day and Athens won, 5-4.
Brett Rudy scored twice off assists from Emma Poirier and Tanner Runyan. Tanner Runyan scored off an assist from Brett Rudy. Kailee Clymer finished the day with eleven saves. Nate Redell added six saves for the Hornets.
The Hornets are now 1-2 on the year.
