The Wellsboro Lady Hornet Middle School team fell in their season opener to Coudersport 23-16 Monday night.
After leading 16-13 after the end of the third quarter, the Lady Hornets allowed 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.
"Coudersport has a great program and we were in the game with them all the way until the end. They outrebounded us throughout the contest and we had several mental errors that gave them some easy buckets in the 4th," said head coach Darrell Morris. "Although it is disappointing to start the season with a loss, I am very optimistic that our young team will learn from this and improve as the season goes on."
8th grader Jessica Grab lead the team with 8 points on 4/10 shooting from the field. 8th grader Autum Kitajima had 4 and 8th grader Kaeli Butters and 7th grader Rachael Tuttle each had 2 points.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 0-1 on the year. The team will be back in action this Saturday, February 23 as they take on Canton in the first round of the Towanda Tournament.
