The Wellsboro Middle School Lady Hornets defeated rival North Penn Thursday night, 35-24.
Jessica Grab led all scorers with 10 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Forwards Rachael Tuttle (8 points, 5 rebounds) and Kaeli Butters (6 points, 8 rebounds) controlled the paint for most of the game. Other contributors included Lizzie Poirier (5 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound), Autum Kitajima (2 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals), Sydney Tremper (2 points, 1 rebound), and Alley Drew (2 points, 1 rebound).
Although Janessa Davis, Hope Wilkinson, and Brianne Keane didn't score, they all played excellent team defense and contributed to the win.
"We had an exciting game over in Blossburg," said head coach Darrell Morris. "Our girls kept pushing the lead up to 12-15 points and North Penn kept coming back, but we answered each of their runs with a run of our own.
"We really passed the ball well and ran the floor better than we have all year. It was a good solid win, and hopefully the momentum will carry over into the NTL Tournament this weekend."
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 6-5 on the year. The team will be in action this Saturday as they face Northern Potter in the first round of the NTL Tournament in Williamson.
