The Wellsboro Middle School basketball teams picked up wins over Williamson Saturday morning.
The boys team won 34-17 to pick up their 10th win of the season. Wellsboro held an 8-3 lead after the first quarter and was up 22-12 entering the final frame before sealing the win.
"Once again the boys did a great job on defense the entire game," said head coach Ed Hamm. "We played helped defense, stayed with our man, and executed offensively to finish the game."
Brandon Lamphier led the Hornets with 10 points on the day, while Bryon Callahan and Quinn Henry each pitched in 6 points. All the other Hornets added 2 points each.
The B team also picked up a win, beating Williamson 37-12.
In the girls game, the Lady Hornets beat Williamson 28-15. Kaeli Butters lead all scorers with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Lizzie Poirier (3 rebounds, 3 steals) and Jessica Grab (2 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists) netted 6 points. Rachael Tuttle (6 rebounds, 7 steals) pitched in 4 points, while Autum Kitajima (7 steals) and Hope Wilkinson added 2 points each.
"Our girls have really figured out how to play hard and as a team the last week or so," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We are really playing well defensively and starting to become more patient on offense.
"We shot 43% from the floor today, which was our highest percentage of the season. It feels really good for our girls, and for coach Kristen West and myself, to see all the hard work pay off down the final stretch of our season."
The win puts the Lady Hornets at 12-6 for the season. The B team also won 16-6 to improve to 6-3 on the year.
Both teams will be back in action on Monday, March 25 as they host Williamson.
