The Middle School basketball teams each fell to Coudersport Wednesday night.
The girls team lost to Coudersport 38-23. Jessica Grab lead Wellsboro with 10 points, and Rachael Tuttle and Kaeli Butters added 5 and 3 points respectively.
"Coudersport is a big, strong, physical team. We got into foul trouble early and couldn't recover," said head coach Darrell Morris. "Our girls fought all the way until the end, and I am proud that they never quit against a very good basketball team."
In the girls B game, the Lady Hornets also lost a close game, 16-15 to fall to 3-3 on the year. The A team's loss now puts them at 5-5 on the season.
In the boys game, the Hornets lost 42-27. Wellsboro trailed at half 13-18 and Coudersport stepped up the defensive pressure in the third, outscoring the Hornets 15-3 to secure the win.
Jacob Singer had 9 points to lead the team, Cole Cavanaugh added 7 points, 5 rebounds, and two blocked shots, Collin Pietropola scored 5 points, Dalton Prough pitched in 4 points, Bryon Callahan had 2 points, and Brandon Lamphier recorded 4 steals.
"We need to limit our turnovers and sprint back on defense to beat a high caliber team such as Coudersport," said head coach Ed Hamm. "The boys showed everyone how much they have improved since playing Coudersport the first game of the season."
With the loss, the Hornets are now 4-4 on the year.
The girls team will be in action Thursday, March 14 at North Penn and the boys will play at North Penn on Friday, March 15.
