The Wellsboro Middle School basketball teams picked up wins over Cowanesque Valley Friday night in Westfield.
The boys team won 35-15 behind 10 points from Bryon Callahan and 9 from Cole Cavanaugh.
"There were still times when we played sloppy and turned the ball over, but I was proud the boys continued to play solid defense despite struggling on the offensive end," said head coach Ed Hamm. "Cole was the spark plug off the bench playing great defense and grabbing rebounds on both sides of the ball and our guards did a great job at getting our big men the ball."
In the B game, the Hornets won 15-7.
In the girls game, the Lady Hornets won 27-12. Rachael Tuttle led the team with 12 points and 8 rebounds, Kaeli Butters added 5 points, and Lizzie Poirier pitched in 3 points.
"We had a slow start and Cowanesque did a nice job defensively on us to start the game," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We played through it and did a better job in the second half both defensively and moving the ball on offense to get better shots."
With the wins, the boys improve to 9-7 while the girls improve to 11-6. Both teams will be in action Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. against Williamson.
