The Wellsboro Varsity girls soccer team dropped a close game to Sayre Saturday by the final of 3-2.
The Lady Hornets opened the scoring at 3:41 in the first half as Freshman Kelsey Logan found the back of the net to put the Hornets up by one. Then at 20:01 the Hornets went up 2-0 off a goal by Junior Lauren Bleggi.
Sayre rallied in the 27th minute to bring the score to 2-1 Wellsboro as Elyse Skerpon recorded a goal for Sayre. Sayre eventaully tied the game late in the first half from another goal by Skerpon. Allie Peet hit the game-winning goal halfway through the second half for the win.
"We were a much improved team that will have many opportunities to pick up a win, but we fell a little short today," said head coach Mike Hotchkiss.
The Lady Hornets recorded 14 shots on goal during the game from Junior Ashley Johns (1), Junior Emilie Kramer (1), Sophomore Jenny Young (2), Logan (2), Bleggi (2) and Junior Jennifer Evans (2), Sophomore Sarah Ingerick (3).
Junior Meghan Bodine recorded 8 saves in net for the team.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 1-3 (0-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, September 9 as they host Athens.
