Hornets drop close match to Sayre

The Wellsboro wrestling team dropped a close non-league match to Sayre Saturday night, 35-30.

Wellsboro held a slim 30-29 lead going into the final match, but Sayre's Zachary Cecce pinned Owen Covert at 285 lbs. in 3:33 to secure the victory for the Redskins.

After three straight losses to start the match, the Junior Nate Ingerick started the wins off for the Hornets at 126 lbs. as he pinned Logan Platt in 1:39. Junior Brandon Owlett secured Wellsboro's second win at 145 lbs. with a pin over Matthew Frantz in 3:16. Sophomore Jack Chambers recorded a forfeit at 152 lbs. for their third win.

The Hornets would go on to win two out of the final three matches, as Senior Chad Daugherty earned career win 96 by forfeit and Senior Eli Kennedy pinned Joseph Fox at 220 lbs. in 1:20.

With the loss, the Hornets are now 1-12 (0-4 NTL Large Division). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, February 5 as they travel to Coudersport.
