The Wellsboro boys basketball team captured their third straight NTL West championship as they held on to defeat Williamson, 48-44.

After leading 27-20 at halftime, Williamson gave the Hornets a run for their money as they put up 20 points in the third quarter and held Wellsboro to only 8 to take the lead. The Hornets would quickly rebound and tighten up their defense to erase Williamson's 5 point lead to claim the crown.

"I have been pretty fortunate the past three years to have a talented group of players as well as a very supportive coaching staff," said head coach Todd Outman. "I want to congratulate both Matt Reese and Jordan Jackson on winning three straight championships. There are not many players in the history of Wellsboro basketball who can make that claim. The returning players and coaching staff are looking forward to working hard on continuing the success of the program."

Junior Joey Doganiero led the team in scoring with 10 points, Sophomore Kieron Smethers scored nine, Junior Dylan Prough and Sophomore Michael Pietropola had eight points each. Senior Matt Reese scored seven and Senior Jordan Jackson netted six to round out the scoring.

In the JV game, the Hornets won 41-36 and had two players in double figures on the night. Freshman Dawson Prough led the team with 16 points and Sophomore Jake Mitchell added 10. With the win, the JV team improves to 13-6 on the year.

With the win for the Varsity team, the Hornets improve to 19-1 (9-0 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, February 13 as they travel to Troy for a non-league game.
