The Wellsboro Varsity softball team fell to Cowanesque Valley 6-5 Saturday afternoon in Westfield.
Down 6-3 coming into the 7th inning, Wellsboro scored two runs in the final frame as Junior Maggie Smith scored on a single by Sophomore Paige Carr, followed by Sophomore Jordan Butters scoring on a hit by Sophomore Baylea Lehman.
When the Lady Hornets were within 1 run, however, Carr was caught stealing home for the final out.
Junior Brooke Kohler and Carr each went 2-4 at the plate and had an RBI. Lehman, Smith, Freshman Sarah Ingerick, and Sophomore Peyton Wilson also added hits on the afternoon.
Kohler went the distance on the mound, giving up 11 hits (1 double), a walk, and striking out 9.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 6-3 (3-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Monday, April 29 as they travel to Sayre.
