The Wellsboro Varsity softball team dropped a 3-2 game to Troy Tuesday night.
Troy started quickly as Kelsey Bristol scored in the first inning to give them a 1-0 lead. A Kara Schucker home run in the second inning made it 2-0 Troy while in the third Brooke Mattocks knocked in Faith Ceely put the Trojans up 3-0.
Junior Maggie Smith hit 2-run home run in the top of the fourth to get the Hornets back in the game. The Lady Hornets trailed by one until the top of the 7th inning and had runners in scoring position, but Schucker struck out Freshman Jenny Young to secure the win.
Freshman Sarah Ingerick went 2-3 with a double and run scored and Sophomore Paige Carr went 2-3. Freshman Alexa Singer and Sophomore Jordan Butters also had hits on the night.
Singer started the game on the mound for the Lady Hornets, giving up 3 runs (2 earned), 7 hits, a home run, and struck out 4. Junior Brooke Kohler pitched the final 1/3 inning and allowed 1 hit and earned a strike out.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 7-4 (3-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, May 1 as they host Northeast Bradford.
