The Wellsboro boys basketball team picked up an NTL West victory by defeating rival Mansfield, 71-35.
Four Hornets scored in double figures on the night, including leading scorer Senior Guard Jordan Jackson with 21 points. In addition to his 21 points, Jackson also had 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 8 steals. Sophomore Michael Pietropola was the second leading scorer with 15 points, rounded out by Senior Matt Reese with 12 points, and Sophomore Kieron Smethers with 11.
Smethers also pulled down 9 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
Other scorers for the Hornets included Junior Dylan Prough with 6 points and 9 rebounds, Junior Joey Doganiero with 3 points, Freshman Dawson Prough with 2 points, and Junior Kyler Widows with 1 point.
In the JV game, the Hornets lost 47-33, ending their 3-game win streak. Dawson Prough led all Hornet scorers with 20 points.
With the win, the Hornets improve their 2012-13 season record to 12-1 (3-0 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Friday, January 11 as they host Cowanesque Valley.
