The Wellsboro Varsity baseball team continued their undefeated season by defeating NTL West rival Williamson 13-6 Monday night on the road.
The Hornets found themselves up 8-0 after the 1st inning before allowing 3 runs in the third inning by Williamson. The Hornets, however, answered back in the 5th inning with four runs to secure the victory.
Senior Ben Shaw went 2-3 and scored 3 runs and Senior Luke Rudy went 2-5 with 4 RBI's to lead the Hornets at the plate. Junior Nate Harding was 1-4 and added 3 RBI's.
Freshman Dawson Prough pitched 5 1/3 innings, struck out 7 batters, and allowed 3 walks for earn the win. Bother, Junior Dylan Prough came on and pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the save.
"I'm pleased with Dawson's pitching performance tonight. He was focused, at ease and didn't try to overthrow. Sometimes he is his own worst enemy, but that wasn't the case tonight," said head coach Philip Prough. "He got stronger as the game went on and is gaining confidence that he can be effective at the varsity level. His ability to pitch innings for us will be important down the road. Defensively, we have been struggling. Simple errors continue to be made by too many veteran players. We have to improve or we'll struggle against playoff caliber teams."
With the win, the Hornets are now 3-0 (2-0 NTL West) on the year. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 17 as they host Canton.
